Mind

"In the universe there is an immeasurable, indescribable force which
shamans call intent, and absolutely everything that exists in the entire
cosmos is attached to intent by a connecting link."

“It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.” Aristotle .

What you think is how you feel.
What you feel is how you act.
If you act in betrayal of your emotions you become divided.

What is human nature?  The nature of human is an animal body within whom is developed a universal mind.  This mind is an extremely sensitive and delicate thing and very easily manipulated and may never reach part of its enormous potential if it is not continual nourished with unfiltered information in the service of truth.

For something to manifest in the physical domain it must have first existed as a thought.

Human nature exists in people who do not use their minds,  who have outsourced their minds to controllers.

What is truth? That which is.

What is natural law?

The duty of a parent is to learn to nourish the body and mind of themselves and their offspring. If the minds of the parents are damaged what adverse influence will they have on the upbringing of their children?

What are the signs of a malnourished body?

The compulsory school system?

The mind is powerful but delicate and sensitive. It can create almost anything it can conceive.
However, the mind is easily deceived and programmed. It can also be influenced by ones emotions, fear, sentimentality etc.

Whether we grow more gross, more selfish, more grasping, more vulgar, more dishonorable, or whether we grow more delicate, more tender, more sympathetic, more aspiring, or more affectionate does not depend on whether we think the mind quantitative or qualitative. It depends on what we think of the values of those qualities. And I for one choose so-called spiritual qualities of mind and character because for me they contain the most enduring and highest joys of earth. Therefore, in this practical sense I am a firm believer in the spiritual life. And when I use the term as I frequently do, it is in this sense that I use it.

The very problem of mind and body suggests division; I do not know of anything so disastrously affected by the habit of division as this particular theme. In its discussion are reflected the splitting off from each other of religion, morals and science; the divorce of philosophy from science and of both from the arts of conduct. The evils which we suffer in education, in religion, in the materialism of business and the aloofness of “intellectuals” from life, in the whole separation of knowledge and practice — all testify to the necessity of seeing mind-body as an integral whole.

CHUCK PALAHNIUK, Choke

EDMUND BURKE, speech, Mar. 22, 1775

The mind
Is so hospitable, taking in everything
Like boarders, and you don’t see until
It’s all over how little there was to learn
Once the stench of knowledge has dissipated.

JOHN ASHBERY, “Houseboat Days”

The human mind is a channel through which things-to-be are coming into the realm of things-that-are.

HENRY FORD, Theosophist Magazine, Feb. 1930

There is an elasticity in the human mind, capable of bearing much, but which will not show itself, until a certain weight of affliction be put upon it; its powers may be compared to those vehicles whose springs are so contrived that they get on smoothly enough when loaded, but jolt confoundedly when they have nothing to bear.

CHARLES CALEB COLTON, Lacon

Truly wonderful the mind of a child is.

A good mind is a lord of a kingdom.

SENECA, Thyestes

The eye sees only what the mind is prepared to comprehend.

As long as the mind is enslaved, the body can never be free. Psychological freedom, a firm sense of self-esteem, is the most powerful weapon against the long night of physical slavery.

MARTIN LUTHER KING, speech, Aug. 16, 1967

A man should keep his little brain attic stocked with all the furniture that he is likely to use, and the rest he can put away in the lumber-room of his library, where he can get it if he wants it.

SIR ARTHUR CONAN DOYLE, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes

What we call a mind is nothing but a heap or collection of different perceptions, united together by certain relations and supposed, though falsely, to be endowed with a perfect simplicity and identity.

DAVID HUME, A Treatise of Human Nature

To know psychology … is no guarantee that we shall manage our minds rightly.

WILLIAM GLOVER, Know Your Own Mind

Such perfect joy therein I find,
That it excels all other bliss
That world affords or grows by kind.

It is the mind that maketh good or ill,
That maketh wretch or happy, rich or poor.

Only in quiet waters things mirror themselves undistorted. Only in a quiet mind is adequate perception of the world.

The mind is free, whate’er afflict the man,
A King’s a King, do Fortune what she can.

MICHAEL DRAYTON, The Barrons’ Wars

How wonderful, how very wonderful the operations of time, and the changes of the human mind!

JANE AUSTEN, Mansfield Park

All civilization in a sense exists only in the mind. Gunpowder, textile arts, machinery, laws, telephones are not themselves transmitted from man to man or from generation to generation, at least not permanently. It is the perception, the knowledge and understanding of them, their ideas in the Platonic sense, that are passed along. Everything social can have existence only through mentality.

TERESA OF AVILA, The Interior Castle

Just as dogs love to chew bones, the mind loves to get its teeth into problems. That’s why it does crossword puzzles and builds atom bombs.

ECKHART TOLLE, The Power of Now

The country would be far better if the population were half as interested in keeping their minds in as good condition as they tried to keep their bodies.

WILLIAM SCOTT DOWNEY, Proverbs

Our mind is but a lump of clay
That Fate, grim potter, holds
On sorrow’s wheel that rolls away,
And, as he pleases, moulds.

BHARTRHARI, “On Time the Destroyer”

What shall I compare it to, this fantastic thing I call my Mind? To a waste-paper basket, to a sieve choked with sediment, or to a barrel full of floating froth and refuse? No, what it is really most like is a spider’s web, insecurely hung on leaves and twigs, quivering in every wind, and sprinkled with dewdrops and dead flies. And at its centre, pondering forever the Problem of Existence, sits motionless the spider-like and uncanny Soul.

LOGAN PEARSALL SMITH, Trivia

Unless its infirmity turn traitor, and Fear unbar the gates.

MARTIN FARQUHAR TUPPER, Proverbial Philosophy

The mind is nothing less than a garden of inestimable value which man should strive to cultivate.

WILLIAM SCOTT DOWNEY, Proverbs

Like the mind, the computer is useful because it produces information. Computers are also functional because they are able to produce a wide variety of responses that mimic human abilities. As the brain has been compared with the computer, the idea that the mind is a mechanical entity has become more plausible. For example, just as the computer operates on electricity, the brain is now described as an object comprised of electronically sensitive cells or neuron networks. Although the nervous system, which is the controlling agent for the body, continues to be shrouded in mystery, many investigators have found it attractive to equate the mind with the brain and to identify both with the computer.

VICENTE BERDAYES, Computers, Human Interaction, and Organizations

“I must really improve my Mind,” I tell myself, and once more begin to patch and repair that crazy structure. So I toil and toil on at the vain task of edification, though the wind tears off the tiles, the floors give way, the ceilings fall, strange birds build untidy nests in the rafters, and owls hoot and laugh in the tumbling chimneys.

LOGAN PEARSALL SMITH, Trivia

There are materials enough in every man’s mind to make a hell there.

HENRY WARD BEECHER, Proverbs from Plymouth Pulpit

Just as iron which is not used grows rusty, and water putrefies and freezes in the cold, so the mind of which no use is made is spoilt.

LEONARDO DA VINCI, Thoughts on Art and Life

Good books are to the young mind what the warming sun and the refreshing rain of spring are to the seeds which have lain dormant in the frosts of winter. They are more, for they may save from that which is worse than death, as well as bless with that which is better than life.

HORACE MANN, Thoughts

The mind delights most in being led through a mystic maze before reaching the open door.

LEWIS F. KORNS, Thoughts

The mind, when compelled, by education or other circumstances, to receive irrational doctrines, has yet a power of keeping them, as it were, on its surface, of excluding them from its depths, of refusing to incorporate them with its own being; and when burdened with a mixed and incongruous system, it often discovers a sagacity which reminds us of the instinct of inferior animals, in selecting the healthful and nutritious portions, and in making them its daily food.

WILLIAM E. CHANNING, Thoughts

Tyrants have not yet discovered any chains that can fetter the mind.

CHARLES CALEB COLTON, Lacon

Some minds are so unclothed that they are indecent.

AUSTIN O’MALLEY, Keystones of Thought

If the human mind naturally produces noisome weeds, it also produces flowers and fruit; and … the best method to mend the soil in general, is for each of us to cultivate his own particular spot.

FULKE GREVILLE, Maxims, Characters, and Reflections

The mind of man is a scene of perpetual instability and commotion, ruffled by every breeze of passion and agitated by every impulse of hope; it floats with giddy security on the ebullitions of fancy, and sinks with precipitation in the cavities of despair; it pursues with avidity the emotions of sense, and listens with rapture to the murmurs of restraint; it hears with pious reverence the counsels of reason, and follows with lucid submission the dictates of pleasure: always fickle and undetermined, it looks for quiet, sometimes in remonstrance, sometimes in acquiescence; it often mixes with confusion, that it may establish peace, and often regulates quietude by turbulent uproar.

NORMAN MACDONALD, Maxims and Moral Reflections

Empires will fall–dynasties fade away; but the mind of man will survive the destruction of all inanimate matter–its destiny is eternal.

EDWARD COUNSEL, Maxims

The heavens and the earth may be captured by the mind’s eye.

GAUTAMA BUDDHA, The Gospel of Buddha

Let the human mind loose. It must be loose. It will be loose. Superstition and dogmatism cannot confine it.

JOHN ADAMS, letter to John Quincy Adams, Nov. 13, 1816

God didn’t give us minds just so we could refuse to use them.

DAVID WEBER, By Schism Rent Asunder

MIND QUOTES III

Look in, and know the mind is all that is;
And knowing, feeling it is all,
Then have ye all.

ROBERT LEIGHTON, “Our Wealth Is Within Us”

I have sworn upon the altar of God, eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man.

THOMAS JEFFERSON, letter to Doctor Rush, Sep. 23, 1800

The greatest business of a man is to improve his mind.

WELLINS CALCOTT, Thoughts Moral and Divine

It is in our own mind and not in exterior objects that we perceive most things; fools know scarcely anything because they are empty, and their heart is narrow; but great souls find in themselves a number of exterior things; they have no need to read or to travel or to listen or to work to discover the highest truths; they have only to delve into themselves and search, if we may say so, their own thoughts.

LUC DE CLAPIERS, MARQUIS DE VAUVENARGUES, Reflections and Maxims

A Man has always the voice of his mind.

PIERRE-ANTOINE BERRYER, quoted in Words of Human Wisdom

The unconscious mind writes poetry if it’s left alone.

STEPHEN KING, Duma Key

You must maintain strength of body in order to preserve strength of mind.

LUC DE CLAPIERS, MARQUIS DE VAUVENARGUES, Reflections and Maxims

An ill principle in the mind is worse than the matter of a disease in the body.

BENJAMIN WHICHCOTE, Moral and Religious Aphorisms

In the world of mind, as in that of matter, we always occupy a position. He who is continually changing his point of view will see more, and that too more clearly, than one who, statue-like, forever stands upon the same pedestal; however lofty and well-placed that pedestal may be.

ARTHUR HELPS, Thoughts in the Cloister and the Crowd
